The American Heart Association (AHA) Heartsaver™ CPR/AED/First Aid/Bloodborne Pathogens Instructor Course is designed to provide individuals with the knowledge and skills needed to teach the Heartsaver™ CPR/AED/First Aid/Bloodborne Pathogens courses to healthcare providers and other interested individuals. The following are some of the topics that may be covered in an AHA Heartsaver™ Instructor Course:

  1. Overview of the AHA: This module provides an introduction to the AHA and its mission, as well as an overview of the Heartsaver™ program and the role of instructors within the program.
  2. Becoming an AHA Heartsaver™ Instructor: This module covers the prerequisites for becoming an AHA Heartsaver™ Instructor, including current certification in CPR, completion of the Heartsaver™ Instructor Course, and successful completion of a monitoring session.
  3. Instructional design and delivery: Participants will learn how to design and deliver effective Heartsaver™ training courses, including how to use the AHA lesson plans, how to adapt the course to different learning styles, and how to create a positive learning environment.
  4. Heartsaver™ course content: This module covers the content of the Heartsaver™ courses, including CPR techniques for adult, child, and infant patients, how to use an automated external defibrillator (AED), first aid techniques, and bloodborne pathogens safety.
  5. Skills practice and testing: Participants will learn how to conduct Heartsaver skills practice and testing sessions, including how to provide feedback to students and how to evaluate student performance.
  6. Course administration: This module covers the administrative aspects of teaching Heartsaver™ courses, including how to register students for courses, how to order course materials, and how to maintain instructor and training center records.
  7. Quality assurance: Participants will learn how to maintain the quality of Heartsaver™ courses and how to conduct regular quality assurance reviews to ensure that courses are being taught effectively.
  8. Renewal and professional development: This module covers the requirements for maintaining Heartsaver™ Instructor certification, including continuing education and professional development.

An AHA Heartsaver™ Instructor Course may also include practical training and teaching experience to provide participants with hands-on experience and the opportunity to practice the skills they have learned. Upon successful completion of the course, participants will be certified as AHA Heartsaver™ Instructors and will be authorized to teach Heartsaver™ courses to others.
